feature: Dublin Film Critics Circle announce their Best Films of 2013

As you may or may not know, I’m a member of the Dublin Film Critic Circle (DFCC), a motley collection of film critics based in Dublin who probably spend even more time talking about film than you might think.

Every year, around this time, we gather together in a forest around a barrel fire and take turns duking it out to crown one critic The Champion, one woman (or man) to rule them all and decide… which films will be our films of the year.

Or not.

2013 was actually a pretty good year to be reviewing movies. There was a wealth of good films this year and some great performances. To give you an idea, in this year’s poll there were votes for 38 different actors in the Best Actor category. Also, there’s only one category with no ties.

By the way, we only go with films that were on general release in cinemas in Ireland – so no 12 Years a Slave on our list. That doesn’t hit our shores till 10th January 2014. Maybe next year Steve McQueen.

Anyway, without further ado. Here are the films you SHOULD have seen this year.
