clips and trailers: Marvel’s Avengers Assemble (2012)

In a way it’s a little early to be talking about The Avengers… there probably won’t be loads of clips and trailer news for it for a while. But no matter. Today sees the release of the first trailer so here you go!

In case you don’t already know, The Avengers is the last in the current slew of films about superheroes from the Marvel Universe. Which is not to say there won’t be more, just that this is the last right now. Basically it’s joining up all the dots we’ve seen so far, starting with Iron Man back in 2008 and continuing through Iron Man 2 last year and Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger this year.

I think the big appeal lies in the fact that we’ll be getting all the stars back for it. Personally, I may not have thought the films were fantastic but I loved Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth in them and I can’t wait to see them joined by the likes of Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and Jeremy Renner and Samuel L Jackson.

Add in the fact that, Joss Whedon, creator, writer and director of seminal TV series’ Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly took up the mantle as co-writer and director and voila! We have ourselves a film that… well let’s just say that I know I’m gonna be there opening weekend.

UPDATES

update 17 Oct 11: There’s been a short scene with Agent Coulson released on the internet. It’s one of the extras that will be included on the Captain America: The First Avenger blu-ray release, due out on 5th December 2011.

I’ve also added the short scene from the Thor blu-ray release which came out on 13th September 2011.

update 28 Feb 12: I have been extremely lax in updating this page, though to be fair, all that’s really been added are the Superbowl TV spots and a thing from NY Comic Con. That said, today has seen quite a shock announcment. The title of the film has been changed to Marvel’s Avengers Assemble. I’m not sure if that’s a UK / Ireland only change or a world-wide one but in any case, it’s a weird one.
