clips and trailers: The Raid (2012)

All hail Gareth Huw Evans and the star of his films, Iko Uwais, for they are the new kings of Action.

I’ll have a review of the film up tomorrow so there’s no real point in going on about it too much here. All I’ll say is that The Raid (or The Raid: Redemption as it’s known as in the US) is an Indonesian martial arts movie that has decided that it will pull no punches.

The premise is simple – A SWAT team becomes trapped in a tenement run by a ruthless mobster and his army of killers and thugs. That’s all you need to know really.

The film has been doing the festival circuit, where it has already won the Midnight Madness People’s Choice Award at Toronto International Film Festival. Here in Ireland it picked up the Audience Award and the Dublin Film Critics Cirle Award for Best Film at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival. I expect that the general public will be no less receptive.

If you missed the UK and Ireland festival screenings you’ll have to wait till 16th May before you get see it. However, lucky folks in the US will get to see it on 23rd March.

If you can’t wait till then then I’ve a selection of clips and trailers that I’ve managed to find on the YouTubes. Have a look at the trailers and production blogs but if you prefer to stay unspoiled I’d stay away from the clips. The film is a sight to behold on the big screen – best if you see some of the finest parts in the way they were meant to be seen.
