movie news: Anchorman sequel announced!

It’s been 8 long years since we last saw the legendary Anchorman and his KVWN-TV Channel 4 Evening News Team on the big screen. Since then there’ve been rumours, gossip and inuenndo about a sequel over the years and at one point it looked touchingly close before Paramount announced in April 2010 that those plans had been scrapped.

Well, fast forward two years… With Steve Carell free of the office and Will Ferrell’s output looking decidedly dodgy lately, Adam McKay and the boys have finally done that deal with Paramount. That’s right folks, There will be an Anchorman 2!

It was pipped to the post by Borat when I was deciding which comedy to put into my top 10 films of the decade but it’s one of the few comedies I’ve seen multiple times and still laugh put loud at. Hopefully the guys haven’t lost the magic that made me cry laughing the first time I saw Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.

In addition to Ferrell, McKay and Carell, Paul Rudd is also reportedly signed up to appear. No word on the Christina Applegate or any of the other but I’d be shocked if there aren’t at least a few don’t return. No word yet on when exactly it’s filming or set for release but I expect that 2013 isn’t out of the question.

You can see Ron Burgundy himself making the announcement on Conan here:

So, do you want to see Ron Burgundy back on the big screen, or do you think they might have left it too long?
