clips and trailers: Pitch Perfect (2012)No Comment
It’s due out in Ireland and the UK just before Christmas and I think it’s a definitely one that’ll cheer up the season. I mean it. Really. No-one pays me to say these things.
Now… before I tell you what it’s about… let me warn you, it’s not going to be everybody’s cup of tea. Just bear in mind that I’m a big fan of dance movies. In my Step Up 4: Miami Heat review I gave it a score of 7/10. Also, I like singing talent contests on TV. I don’t actually watch them very often, I spend all my free time in the cinema, but I like them when I do.
With that in mind… Pitch Perfect centers around the competition between two major a cappella choirs in a Barden University, the all-girls group The Bellas and the boys groups The Barden Treblemakers. Anna Kendrick stars as Beca, a freshman and aspiring DJ who might just have what The Bellas need to finally beat the Treblemakers. I guess it sounds a little like Glee but let me assure you… well… it is, but without the crapness.
It’s actually based on a non-fiction novel by Mickey Rapkin, a senior editor with GQ magazine who spent a season following competitive university-level a cappella, writing about the rivalries, singing, partying and even groupies.
Though, if you like Glee there’s no reason you won’t like this as well.
The clips so far make it look a little happy-go-lucky but with Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson (who you might remember from Bridesmaids) it’s a lot more fun than it ought to be. Plus, the director is the guy who directed Avenue Q.
So that’s something.
