There’s a new version of Poltergeist coming… are you ready?
This latest addition to the horror remakes genre is directed by Gil Kenan and stars Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris and Jane Adams. It’s got some pretty good pedigree in the production stakes with Sam Raimi (Evil Dead), Roy Lee (The Woman in Black) and Rob Tapert (Drag Me to Hell) all there in the background.
It’s always a tough one with horror remakes. On the one hand, it can be great to see an old classic updated with new effects and a contemporary setting but on the other, sometimes you have to wonder if it’s actually necessary. It’s like a cover version of a song, sometimes they’re amazing and they breathe new life into and old tune and sometimes… not.
Myself, I’m not particularly against remakes any more than I’m against cover versions of songs (I’m not). You’ll always have the original, even if the remake doesn’t grab you the same way as the first one did.
Personally, I think this trailer is probably giving away a bit too much, I stopped around the half way mark, but check it out and let me know what you think.
