clips and trailers: Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Planet of the Apes films. I’ve only seen the first one but I really like the idea. You know, a planet full of smart apes, something about that resonates with me. Hehe.

It’s been 38 years since the last of the original series and 10 years since the widely criticised Tim Burton remake, a film which (surprise, surprise) I didn’t hate as much as everyone else. I guess that’s means we’re ripe for a new one.

Actually it really does. I’m always a bit iffy about revisiting classics, but let’s face it, it’s not like the Planet of the Apes films were that hot in the first place and 38 years is plenty time to allow the original breathing space. I felt the same about the one 10 years ago to be honest. It was that long ago you don’t really need to compare them.

The new one that we’re ripe for is called Rise of the Planet of the Apes and it’s due for release in August 2011.

So…sort of referring to the legend of the father of their civilization in the Tim burton film.

Only, in an alternate universe. And near-future rather than Arthur C. Clarke future.
